TEEN READ WEEK, DAY 2!

Thanks to everyone who's already posted their favorite books on yesterday's blog comments! There are a lot of books that I've never even HEARD of and I can't wait to get reading! In the meantime, here's another of my recent favorites:

SO PUNK ROCK was written by my friend Micol and illustrated by her brother David, but I'm not just plugging it because she's my friend. This book had me laughing out loud from the first page! It's the totally original story of Ari Abramson, a not-so-cool dude who attends an all-Jewish prep school in New Jersey. His solution to transforming himself from geek to uber-cool? Starting up a punk rock band, of course. The cast of characters is realistic and lovable and you'll adore reading all about Ari's ups and downs with his friends, his family and his band.

Enjoy! And keep those suggestions coming! Remember, one lucky commentor will win a signed copy of GEEK MAGNET and a signed copy of PRIVILEGE this Friday!

Hey Kieran! That book sounds so good!

I have been reading a lot lately and one book I highly recommend is "13 Reasons Why" By Jay Asher. The book follows Clay Jensen on an audiotour throughout his hometown, but this isn't just any audiotour. In the very beginning Clay comes home and finds a box of cassette tapes on his porch. These tapes were sent to him and 12 of his classmates by Hannah Baker, another one of Clay's classmates (and also his former crush) who killed herself a couple weeks before. On the tapes, Hannah describes how each and every one of them played a role in her suicide. Clay follows Hannah's steps throughout town, now seeing everything (and everyone) in a different light.

I really REALLY love this book. It is a bit controversial, it covers the very touchy subject of suicide, and more specifically, teenage suicide. I believe not only is this book a very good book and an easy read, but one with a very valuable lesson. Every little thing you do or say can affect someone's life in a major way so watch what you say.

Hey, Kieran.

So aside from your books, one of my very favourite books is Bounce by Natasha Friend. It's a story about the girl named Evyn (whose name I cannot pronounce up till now) who has lived her life only with her father and brother. Her mother passed away when she was only one but Evyn talks to her like an imaginary friend. BUT SHE'S NOT CRAZY! Okay. So her father decided to marry another woman and basically is about her life going through such tremendous change and for sure I can tell you that Evyn does not like it. Well, 6 stepbrothers and stepsisters can be a little big for a change don't you think?

So there's a lot of teenage angst that somehow people can relate to and it's a heartfelt book. You can probably finish it in more than an hour as well.

Liwen.

I read another comment on the Sarah Dessen books (which are amazing), Speak which I read last year as a book project and was also a great read (and made me cry as well), then there's Story of a Girl by Sara Zarr, Before I Die by Jenny Downham (took a little getting into but still made me cry), and Forever... by Judy Blume (which was also another one that everyone in my field of reading friends shared and read).

Just thought I'd share a few more since there were plenty of other comments :]

sorry to like be weird and comment everyday but i follow you on twitter lolz so its pretty much an OCD thing to see if you changed anything. wow. but yeah i agree with Jennah about the Sarah Dessen books, particularly Just Listen which im reading now. i love those books where the main character feels ostrasized(opps spell check) but comes to be understood, just like Reed. but more so.(fragment, lol) The book Saving Zoe is really really good too. its got that kind of main character story but also with a mystery/crime to it. i reccomend both highly. and i really love your reccomendations, although i find that i dont get as into books written in guy perspective..because im a girl, naturally. but if you reccomend ill give it another shot.
